Perineal Body Measurement
Methods retrospective chart review of all new patients seen in an academic urogynecology clinic between january 2007 and september 2011.
Perineal body measurement. Height 169 17 mm length 160 14 mm perimeter 65 05 mm and area 21 05 cm 2. The above measurements are recorded on a 3 3 grid. A small perineal body was strongly associated with posterior compartment prolapse paired t test p 00001 and wider pop q gh paired t test p 00003. The anterior vaginal wall and the cervix or vault are documented on the top row the posterior vaginal wall and the posterior fornix on the bottom row.
The average perineal body length was 390 cm 070. Correlation of genital hiatus and perineal body measurements with perineal laceration risk were evaluated. The presence and degree of perineal laceration after birth were determined. A total of 234 patients met our inclusion criteria.
Perineal body measurements in 79 prolapse patients. Perineal body measurements were available for 133 57. There is some variability in how the boundaries are defined. The perineal body is the meeting point of several superficial perineal muscles.
After birth vaginal laceration oxytocin use fetal birth weight the presence of episiotomy were recorded. The descriptive measurements of the genital hiatus perineal body and total vaginal length at rest are recorded in the middle row. The perineum is the region of the body between the pubic symphysis pubic arch and the coccyx tail bone including the perineal body and surrounding structures. In the control group the perineal body appeared to be like an upright right angled triangle in the mid sagittal plane.
Objective genital hiatus gh and perineal body pb are part of the pelvic organ prolapse quantification assessment system but it is unclear whether measurements should be taken at rest or on valsalva. Correlation of perineal body pb measurements or pb changes over time δpb with pop q measurements 6 months postpartum after correction for the confounding variables of the corresponding antepartum pop q measurement maternal age and bmi at delivery birth weight of infant and length of the second stage of labor. Perineal body measurements in 79 prolapse patients. This study was designed to assess the predictive value of gh and pb measurements obtained at rest and on valsalva for signs and symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse pop.
3 the measurements were dependent on the body size age and weight. The perineum in humans is the space between the anus and scrotum in the male and between the anus and the vulva in the female.
